4-Day Sagada Wedding

Dec. 11, 2015, the Amayor Events stood as sponsors in a wedding in Sagada, Mountain Province, best known for its hanging coffins, one of its most iconic tourist attractions.

The first day preparation of the traditional wedding wherein the selected elders guided by an anointed elder priest butchered sacrificial animals then chant the traditional wedding verses. The second day was followed through a civil wedding being performed by local officials specifically the head of the town. The couple we stood for, one of the closest American friend of Sir Don, Steven Edward Rogers and his wife Siegrid Anne Bangyay, a famous pottery maker in Sagada. The couple had a two-in-one celebration as their youngest one-year-old son David was also baptized minutes before they were wed.

The recent wedding reinforced our bond with the Cordillera people of the Sagada region. I felt very proud when the people who witnessed the ceremony at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin were very friendly and greeted me with broad smiles. I met Steve’s mother, sister and brother who traveled all the way from America and Siegrid’s immediate family and tribal members. Steve’s friends from Peace Corps and river rafting clients also attended to celebrate their special day. With the support of the couple’s respective clans and the community, the couple hopes to have stronger, more stable basis. Indeed, one admirable aspect of marriage in traditional communities is the expression of solidarity by relatives, neighbours and friends who contribute whatever they can – rice, cooking utensils, flowers, pigs and chickens, etc. Most guests also made monetary donations to the couple’s festive occasion. Congratulations Steven and Siegrid. We wish all of you happiness and success. 🙂
