MMFF 2015 New Wave “MANDIRIGMA”

Today I covered the media preview of Mandirigma, a film competing in the New Wave of Metro Manila Film Festival 2015. Directed by Arlyn Dela Cruz, a well known journalist who has a reputation covering dangerous assignment for National Inquirer. Her first debut film as a director was nominated for 11 categories in MMFF 2014, much acclaimed MARATABAT, based on the massacre of many journalist in Maguindanao more than five years ago.

Mandirigma is based on the Philippine Marines and the hunt for a famous terrorist from Malaysia, Marwan, a bomb maker hiding out in Sulo, Mindanao. Mon Confiado stars as this terrorist, who was actually killed two months after the film was done and in the can.

“LIFE imitated Art”, Dir. Dela Cruz informed the media, and perhaps another project may be in the works? Honouring the Fallen 44 Heroes of Mamasapano.
